In Europe there were 174 new product launches which made reference to omega-3 content in their product description in the first ten months of this year.
The majority of new spreads and oils being launched are using flaxseed and canola oil to increase the levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their products.
2005 is also the first year where we are seeing omega-3's added to chocolate! The Dutch firm Goodlife has launched a new product called "Happy Heart Balls" which is a low-calorie chocolate product with fish oil added.
