Flaxseed Benefits Emphysema

A recently released study concludes that the fats found in flaxseeds can help people who suffer from ephysema, chronic bronchitis and other chronic lung diseases.

Researchers found that supplements of omega-3 fatty acids improved patients' breathing difficulties - possibly by lessening airway inflammation.

Sixty-four people were asked to drink a liquid supplement rich in omega-3 fats each day, the other sixty-four people drank a supplement containing omega-6 fats.

After two years, the people in the omega-3 group improved significantly in their breathing during exercise. As well, the levels of certain inflammatory proteins in their blood and mucus declined. See more on the COPD study here.

Other rich sources of Omega 3 include flaxseed oil, flaxseed enriched eggs, walnuts, cold-water fish and fish oils.
