Consumer Reports has just found that much of the 'wild salmon' you think you are buying is actually farmed salmon, raised on fish farms. This salmon is much less nutritious than farmed salmon and has a much lower count of omega 3's.
They tested 23 'wild salmon fillets' they bought in various stores and found that only 10 of them were actually wild salmon. Thirteen of them were actually farm-raised salmon.
They recommend you buy your wild salmon in the summer, as during this time it's more likely to actually be wild. They also recommend that when you buy canned salmon, to look for Alaskan canned salmon, as Alaska has outlawed salmon fish farms.
Another reason to eat your flaxseeds!
